§ 357 Mental Health Evaluation Order

Key Takeaways

  • •If a judge thinks a kid might have mental health problems, they can send the kid to a special hospital for a check-up.
  • •The hospital will watch the kid and suggest what kind of help they need.
  • •This can happen before or during a court hearing about the kid.

Example

A 15-year-old is in court for skipping school a lot. The judge notices the kid is acting really strange, like talking to themselves or getting super angry for no reason.

The judge might send the kid to a hospital for a few days to have doctors check if they have a mental health problem. The doctors will then tell the judge what kind of help the kid needs.
