§ 281 Probation Officer Custody Reports

Key Takeaways

  • •If a court is deciding something about a kid (like where they live or who takes care of them), a probation officer has to look into the situation.
  • •The probation officer writes a report with facts and suggestions to help the court make a decision.
  • •The court can use this report to help decide what’s best for the kid.

Example

A judge is deciding which parent a child should live with after a divorce.

A probation officer will talk to the parents, the child, and maybe teachers or doctors to figure out what’s best. They write a report, and the judge reads it to help make a fair decision.
