§ 18205 County In-Home Services Extension

Key Takeaways

  • •A county can ask the state to extend a special program that helps people at home with things like cleaning or cooking.
  • •The program can be extended, but it can’t last longer than 5 years total.
  • •If a private company is helping with the program, the county can renew their contract, but the total time can’t be more than 5 years.
  • •The county and the company can talk about changing how much money the company gets paid, but it depends on how much money is available.

Example

A county has a program where workers help elderly people stay in their homes by doing chores. The program has been running for 3 years, and the county wants to keep it going.

The county can ask the state to extend the program for 2 more years, but after that, it has to stop because the total time can’t be more than 5 years. If a private company is helping, the county can renew their contract but only if the total time doesn’t go over 5 years.
