§ 14482 Health Plan Subcontractor Restrictions

Key Takeaways

  • •Health plans can't hire outside companies if important people (like bosses or their family) have a big money interest in those companies.
  • •The outside company must be part of the health plan's family of companies or have its money records mixed with the health plan's.
  • •This rule stops people from making shady deals where they benefit personally.

Example

A health plan wants to hire a company owned by the CEO's brother to handle customer service.

This is not allowed because the CEO's brother is family, and the CEO has a big say in the health plan. It could mean the brother's company gets special treatment.
