§ 11010 Public Assistance Grant Exclusions

This law says that when the government decides how much money to give someone for public assistance, they don't count extra help from friends, family, or charities if that help is for something specific that the government doesn't already pay for.

Key Takeaways

  • •Extra help from others doesn't always mean the government will give you less money.
  • •The extra help must be for something specific that the government doesn't already pay for.
  • •The person giving the help must have rules about how the money can be used.

Example

A single mom gets government help to pay for food and rent. Her church gives her money to buy school supplies for her kids.

The government won't count the church's money when they decide how much help to give her, because school supplies aren't something the government already pays for.
