§ 8970 Warrant Interest Certification

Key Takeaways

  • •If the state doesn't have enough money to pay a warrant (like a check from the government), it won't be paid right away.
  • •The warrant can earn interest if it's not paid on time.
  • •The Controller (a state official) can write down how much interest the warrant has earned if you ask them.

Example

Imagine you have a check from the government for $100, but they don't have enough money to pay you right now.

The check won't be paid immediately, but it will start earning interest. Later, you can ask the Controller to write down how much interest your check has earned so you know how much extra money you'll get when they finally pay you.
