§ 4304 Public Utility Money Lien

Key Takeaways

  • •If a public utility (like an electric or water company) owes money under this law, the debt can be taken from their money if they don’t pay on time.
  • •The debt becomes a legal claim (like a lock) on the utility’s money until it’s paid.
  • •This rule was added in 1961 and replaced an older version.

Example

A power company doesn’t pay its required fees to the government on time.

The government can take the owed money directly from the company’s funds because the debt acts like a lock on their money.
