§ 2000 Water Rights Court Reference

Key Takeaways

  • •If people fight in court about who gets to use water, the judge can ask the water board to help decide.
  • •The water board acts like a helper to the judge to figure out who is right about water rights.
  • •This rule was updated a long time ago, in 1957.

Example

Two farmers are fighting in court because they both want to use water from the same river for their crops.

The judge can say, 'Let the water board help us figure out who should get the water and how much.' The water board will then look at the problem and give their opinion to the judge.
