§ 13522 Recycled Water Contamination Abatement

Key Takeaways

  • •If recycled water causes contamination, health officials must order it to be fixed.
  • •Using recycled water the right way (following state rules) usually doesn’t count as contamination.
  • •Health officials decide if the recycled water is actually causing a problem.

Example

A farm uses recycled water to grow crops, but the water makes the soil unsafe.

Health officials will check the problem and tell the farm to stop using the water until it’s fixed. If the farm followed the state’s rules for using recycled water, it might not be their fault.
