§ 22505 Highway Parking Restrictions

This law lets the Department of Transportation put up signs to stop or limit parking in certain areas, like places where parking could cause danger or block traffic. It also says you can't park where these signs tell you not to.

Key Takeaways

  • •The Department of Transportation can put up signs to stop or limit parking in dangerous or high-traffic areas.
  • •You can't park where these signs tell you not to, unless your car breaks down and you have no choice.
  • •These rules don't apply to public utility vehicles doing their job.

Example

You're driving near a state park and see a sign that says 'No Parking - Fire Hazard Area'.

This means you can't park your car there because it's too close to a park where fires could start easily. If you park there anyway, you could get in trouble.

(2) In areas within one-half mile of the boundary of any unit of the state park system which the Director of Conservation has determined are unusually high fire hazard areas, upon notification of the Department of Transportation of such determination by the Director of Conservation. (3) In areas within one-half mile of the boundary of any unit of the state park system which the county health officer has determined are areas where a substantial public health hazard would result if camping were allowed, upon notification of the Department of Transportation of such determination by the county health officer. (b) No person shall stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle in violation of the restrictions stated on the signs or markings. (c) This section does not apply to any of the following: (1) Public utility vehicles while performing a work operation. (2) The driver of any vehicle which is disabled in such a manner and to such an extent that it is impossible to avoid stopping, parking, or leaving the disabled vehicle standing on the roadway.
