§ 12810 Two-Point Violations

This law explains how points are added to your driving record for different traffic violations. More serious mistakes give you more points.

Key Takeaways

  • •Big mistakes like drunk driving, hit and runs, or reckless driving give you 2 points.
  • •Smaller mistakes like speeding or minor accidents usually give you 1 point.
  • •Some small violations (like not wearing a seatbelt) don’t give you any points.
  • •You only get points for one mistake per traffic stop, even if you did multiple things wrong.

Example

You get into a car accident and drive away without stopping to help or leave your information.

This is called a 'hit and run,' and you'll get 2 points on your driving record for it.
