§ 98185 Retirement System Membership Rules

• •The board decides who must join the retirement system.
• •If you're in the group they pick, you have to join—no choice.
• •Board members themselves don’t have to join.

If you work for a school and the board says all teachers must join the retirement plan, you have to join even if you don’t want to.

The board picks who joins, and if you’re picked, you’re in—no exceptions unless you’re on the board.
