§ 97006 District Property Transfer Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •When a special district (like a water or fire district) is closed down, its stuff (like land or buildings) goes to the city where it is located.
  • •If the stuff is not inside any city, it goes to the county where it is located.
  • •The city or county gets full ownership of this stuff.

Example

A small fire district that covers a rural area and a nearby town is shut down.

The fire trucks and fire station in the town will now belong to the town. The fire station out in the countryside, where there is no town, will belong to the county.
