§ 92001 District Dissolution Election

Key Takeaways

  • •If people want to close down a special district (like a water or fire district), they can sign a petition.
  • •After the petition is given to the right people, there must be a vote within 60 days.
  • •The vote is to decide if the district should be shut down or not.

Example

A group of people in a small town don’t like how their local water district is run. They collect signatures to ask for a vote to close it.

Once they give the signed petition to the right office, the town must hold a vote within 60 days. The voters will then decide if the water district stays or goes.
