§ 7653 Passenger Car Capacity Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Trains must have enough space for all passengers who bought tickets for that trip.
  • •If the train company sells you a ticket, they must give you a proper place to sit or stand.
  • •Even if you ride in a car that’s usually for bags or stuff (like a freight car), the train company must keep you just as safe as in a regular passenger car.

Example

You buy a train ticket, but when you get on, the train is so packed that there’s no room for you to sit or stand safely.

The train company broke the law because they sold you a ticket but didn’t make sure there was enough space for you. They have to give you a safe spot, even if it means not selling so many tickets.
