§ 70037 District Formation Election

Key Takeaways

  • •If people ask for a new district, the board must hold a vote to decide if it happens.
  • •If the board itself wants a new district, they can choose to hold a vote about it.
  • •The vote is only for the people in the area that might become the new district.

Example

A group of neighbors wants their area to become its own school district.

The board must let everyone in that area vote to decide if they want to be a new school district. If the board itself thinks a new park district would be good, they can decide to hold a vote for the people in that area.
