§ 50501 District Dissolution Election

Key Takeaways

  • •If people want to close down a special district (like a water or school district), they can sign a petition.
  • •After the petition is given to the right people, there must be a vote within 60 days.
  • •The vote is to decide if the district should be shut down or not.

Example

A group of people in a small town don’t like how their local water district is run. They want to close it down.

They collect signatures and give the petition to the right office. Then, within 60 days, everyone in the town gets to vote on whether to shut down the water district or keep it.
