§ 50045 District Formation Election Costs

Key Takeaways

  • •If a special vote is held just to decide if a new area (like a neighborhood) should become its own district, the county pays for the vote first.
  • •The county gets its money back by adding a small tax to the property bills of everyone in that new area.
  • •This extra tax shows up on the next property tax bill people get.

Example

Imagine your neighborhood votes to become its own school district. The county pays for the vote.

The county will add a little extra charge to your next property tax bill to cover the cost of that vote.
