§ 40301 Transit Revenue Tax Levy

Key Takeaways

  • •If the money from buses, trains, or other public transit isn't enough to pay for things like repairs or worker salaries, the board can decide to add a tax.
  • •The board decides how much extra money is needed and sets the tax amount to cover it.
  • •This tax is only used for transit stuff, like keeping buses running or fixing train tracks.

Example

Imagine the local bus system doesn’t have enough money to buy new buses or pay drivers.

The board in charge can say, 'We need more money,' and add a small tax to help pay for those new buses or driver salaries. This way, the buses keep running smoothly.
