§ 346 Iso Ferc Compliance Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •The Independent System Operator (ISO) must join all important meetings with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
  • •The ISO has to ask FERC for permission to get the power and transmission lines needed to keep the electricity system reliable.
  • •The ISO must follow rules that are at least as strict as those set by the Western Electricity Coordinating Council and the North American Electric Reliability Council.

Example

Imagine the ISO is like a manager for the electricity grid. They need to make sure there’s always enough power, even on really hot days when everyone is using their air conditioners.

The ISO has to go to FERC (like a big boss) and ask for permission to get extra power plants or transmission lines to make sure the lights stay on. They can’t just do whatever they want—they have to follow strict rules to keep everything safe and working.
