§ 29282 Unclaimed Bond Payment Process

Key Takeaways

  • •If you don't cash in your bonds or notes within 30 days after getting a notice, the government will use the money set aside to pay off the next ones in line.
  • •This keeps happening until all the bonds and notes are paid off.
  • •The rule starts on January 1, 2025.

Example

Imagine you have a savings bond from the government, and they send you a letter saying it's time to cash it in.

If you don't cash it within 30 days, the government will use that money to pay off the next person's bond instead. They'll keep doing this until all bonds are paid.
