§ 24829 Election Consolidation Procedures

Key Takeaways

  • •If there's a special vote for a local area, it should happen at the same time as the big general election.
  • •The local government must count the votes and tell the results to the main board.
  • •Only one ballot is used for all the votes happening at the same time.

Example

Your town needs to vote on a new school rule, and there's also a big election for the mayor happening soon.

Instead of having two separate voting days, the town will add the school rule vote to the same ballot as the mayor election. You vote once, and the local government counts all the votes together and tells the school board the results.

It shall be the duty of the board or boards of supervisors to so consolidate the election, canvass the returns, and cause the result thereof to be properly certified to the board of directors of the district. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one ticket or ballot shall be used. (Added by Stats. 1955, Ch. 1036.)
