§ 15703 District Petition Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •A petition can be made up of many separate papers, but they all count as one petition.
  • •Each part of the proposed district needs its own separate petition.
  • •All areas not part of a city in the same county count as one unit for the petition.
  • •A registered voter can only sign the petition for their own unit, not for another unit.

Example

Imagine your neighborhood wants to create a new school district. Your neighborhood is in one county, and the neighborhood next to yours is in another county.

Your neighborhood would need its own petition, and the other neighborhood would need its own separate petition. You can only sign the petition for your own neighborhood, not the other one.
