§ 11895 District Name Change Process

Key Takeaways

  • •A school district can change its name if most of the board members agree.
  • •The district must write down the new name and send it to the right places.
  • •The new name must be recorded in every county the district covers.

Example

Imagine your local school district is called 'Sunny Valley Schools' but wants to change its name to 'Happy Hills Schools'.

If most of the school board members vote 'yes' to change the name, they write it down officially and send the new name to the counties they are in and to the Treasurer.
