§ 105281 County District Annexation Process

• •The county must share a border with the district.
• •A majority of the county’s board of supervisors must vote to send a petition.
• •The district’s board can also start the annexation process on its own.
• •The rule became effective on January 1, 2003.

County A borders School District B. The supervisors of County A vote that the town of Riverdale should join District B. They send a petition to District B asking for the town to be annexed.

Because the county board voted yes, the petition follows the rule and the district can decide to add Riverdale to its area. The district could also have started the idea itself and asked to take in Riverdale.
