§ 101166 District Treasurer Appointment

This law says that if a district puts its money somewhere other than the county treasury, the board must pick a treasurer to keep the money safe and pay it out, and the board can fire the treasurer whenever they want.

Key Takeaways

  • •If district money is not in the county treasury, the board must appoint a treasurer.
  • •The treasurer is in charge of keeping the money safe and paying it out as needed.
  • •The treasurer serves at the board's pleasure, meaning the board can replace them at any time.

Example

A school district decides to keep its cash in a private bank instead of the county's account.

Because the money is not in the county treasury, the school board must hire a treasurer to look after the bank account and pay bills, and the board can remove that treasurer at any time.
