§ 202 Combining Estate Administration Proceedings

If someone's estate is already being handled by the court, you can add other related court requests to that same case without paying extra, as long as you do it before the estate is finally divided.

Key Takeaways

  • •You can combine new court requests with an ongoing estate case.
  • •The request must be filed by the person affected or the estate's representative.
  • •It has to be filed before the court makes the final distribution of the estate.
  • •No extra filing fee is required.

Example

Jane's mother has died and the court is already sorting out the mother's money and property. Jane wants to ask the court to change the name on a car title that was left to her.

Jane can file her request to change the car title in the same court case that is already dealing with her mother's estate, as long as she does it before the court finishes handing out everything, and she won't have to pay another filing fee.
