§ 10701 Definitions Project Service Contract

This law tells us what the words “project,” “service contract,” and “trustees” mean when the state university does building or repair work.

Key Takeaways

  • •A “project” is any building, fixing, painting, or improvement work on state property, including CSU land, and can be paid with public money.
  • •A “service contract” is any agreement for services like design, engineering, or testing that helps a project, but isn’t the actual building work.
  • •“Trustees” are the California State University board members and anyone they choose to act for them.

Example

The university wants to add a new science lab on campus and hires a company to design the building plans.

The actual building of the lab is called a “project,” while hiring the designer is a “service contract.” The university’s board of trustees are the people who approve it.
