§ 284 Naval Militia Organization

This law says the Naval Militia can be broken into several groups called naval brigades, each made up of smaller units that the Navy decides, matching the number of divisions in the regular Navy.

Key Takeaways

  • •The Naval Militia is divided into brigades.
  • •Each brigade contains battalions set by the Navy Department.
  • •The number of brigades matches the number of divisions in the U.S. Navy.

Example

A state's Naval Militia wants to help during a natural disaster.

The Navy decides how many brigades are needed and what smaller battalions each brigade will have, just like the regular Navy splits its ships into divisions and then into smaller fleets.
