§ 1658 Highway Closure Travel Permits

This law lets highway commissioners give written permits so certain trusted people can use roads that are closed or limited.

Key Takeaways

  • •Commissioners can issue written permits for closed or restricted highways.
  • •Permits are only for people who are responsible and reputable.
  • •The commissioners decide how long the permit lasts, what conditions apply, and what the permit looks like.

Example

A road is closed for bridge repairs, but a local fire truck needs to get through to respond to an emergency.

The fire department can ask the highway commissioners for a written permit, and if they are considered responsible and reputable, they get permission to drive on the closed road under the rules the commissioners set.
