§ 80710 Hazardous Material Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •Hazardous material is anything that can hurt people or harm the environment.
  • •This includes things like dangerous chemicals, waste that can catch fire, or stuff that can make people sick.
  • •Even some regular trash can be hazardous if it’s bad for the environment.

Example

You have old batteries lying around at home.

Those batteries are hazardous material because they can leak bad chemicals. You can’t just throw them in the regular trash—they need special handling so they don’t hurt people or the planet.
