§ 51177 Low-Income Housing Loans

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can give loans to build or buy homes to people who don't make a lot of money.
  • •To get this loan, your family's income must be less than 65% of what most families in your area make.
  • •The income limit is based on a family of four, but it can change a little if your family is bigger or smaller.
  • •You don't need a bank or a special lender to get this loan.

Example

A family of three wants to buy a house in a town where most families make $80,000 a year.

The family can get a loan from the government if they make less than $43,200 a year (which is 65% of $66,461, the adjusted amount for a family of three). They don't need to go through a bank.
