§ 50827 Small Cities Economic Development

Key Takeaways

  • •30% of certain federal funds must be used for projects that help people with low or moderate income, like better housing or jobs.
  • •If there aren’t enough good projects asking for this money, the extra funds can be used for other helpful projects.
  • •The government must make it easier for local groups to get this money by updating rules and training staff.
  • •The government must post clear links to federal rules and release a schedule to give out the money faster.

Example

A small town wants to build affordable homes and create jobs for people who don’t earn much money.

The town can apply for a share of the 30% of federal funds set aside for projects like this. If the town’s plan is approved, it gets money to build homes and create jobs. If not enough towns apply, the money can be used for other helpful projects, like fixing up parks or roads.
