§ 43206 Manufacturer Emissions Compliance Reports

Key Takeaways

  • •Car companies must send a yearly report to California about how they're making cars cleaner and safer.
  • •The report is public, but companies can hide parts they say are secret business info.
  • •California can check the reports to make sure companies are telling the truth.
  • •If all a company's cars meet the clean and safe rules, they don’t have to send reports anymore.

Example

Toyota sells cars in California and has to follow clean air rules.

Every year, Toyota must tell California how they’re making cars that pollute less. They can hide some secret info, but California can still check if they’re doing a good job. If all Toyota cars are clean enough, they stop sending reports.

State board employees having access to the trade secret shall maintain its confidentiality. The state board shall conduct investigations with respect to the reports as it deems necessary.
