§ 42321 Business Air Permit Efficiency

Key Takeaways

  • •California has strong laws to reduce air pollution and protect health.
  • •The state wants to make it easier for businesses to follow these laws, especially when money is tight.
  • •The goal is to speed up the process for businesses to get permits without making the air dirtier or harming people.

Example

A small bakery wants to install a new oven but needs a permit to make sure it doesn’t pollute the air.

The law says the government must review and improve the permit process so the bakery can get its permit faster, as long as the oven doesn’t harm the air or people’s health.

(b)  It is in the interest of the people of the state, particularly during times of economic difficulty, to enact laws which improve the processes by which businesses comply with environmental and air quality laws, without sacrificing the protection of public health and the environment. (c)  The purpose of this article is to require districts to review their permit programs and to institute new, efficient procedures which will assist businesses in complying with regional, state, and federal air quality laws in an expedited fashion, without reducing protection of public health and the environment.
