§ 41500 State Air Quality Oversight

Key Takeaways

  • •The state checks local plans to make sure they will clean up the air fast enough.
  • •The state looks at local rules to see if they are strong enough to keep the air clean.
  • •The state watches to see if local groups are actually punishing people who break the air pollution rules.

Example

A city makes a plan to reduce smog from cars and factories.

The state checks if the city’s plan is good enough to clean the air quickly. If the plan is weak or the city isn’t punishing factories that pollute, the state can step in.
