§ 40373 Regional District Tax Liens

Key Takeaways

  • •If a regional district needs money, the county can add a tax to your property.
  • •This tax is like a debt tied to your property—you can't ignore it.
  • •The county can make you pay this tax the same way they make you pay other property taxes.
  • •This rule has been around since 1975.

Example

You own a house in an area that's part of a regional district for better schools.

The county adds an extra tax to your property bill to pay for those schools. If you don’t pay, the county can take the same steps they would for unpaid property taxes, like adding fees or even selling your house to get the money.
