§ 33752 Urban Redevelopment Financing Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •This law helps cities fix up old or run-down areas to make them nicer for everyone.
  • •Building cheap homes for poor or middle-class families isn’t the main goal, but it’s allowed if it fits the city’s plan.
  • •The city can still help pay for these homes if the money is protected by the government.

Example

A city wants to clean up a neighborhood with old, broken-down buildings.

The city can use this law to rebuild the area, but they don’t have to focus on building cheap apartments. If they do build cheap apartments, they can only use government-backed loans to pay for it.

§ 33752 Urban Redevelopment Financing Rules

It is the intent of the Legislature, in enacting this chapter, to strengthen the vitality and promote the completion of urban redevelopment for the general public benefit. The construction of federally assisted housing for low- and moderate-income households is not a primary purpose of this chapter. However, nothing in this chapter shall be deemed to prohibit financing of federally assisted housing for low- and moderate-income households when such housing is consistent with the redevelopment plan and the loan is directly or indirectly insured. (Added by Stats. 1975, Ch. 48.)
