§ 26149 Responsibility For Compliance

Key Takeaways

  • •This law doesn’t let sellers, landlords, or tenants ignore other rules or duties they already have.
  • •It doesn’t change any rights, fixes, or defenses people already have under other laws.
  • •Even with this law, you still have to follow other rules like keeping rental places safe and livable.

Example

A landlord rents out an apartment but doesn’t fix a broken heater in the winter.

This law doesn’t let the landlord ignore their duty to keep the apartment safe and livable. The tenant can still report the landlord for not following housing rules.
