§ 19818 Hospital Fabric Flammability Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •The State Fire Marshal makes rules about how easily fabrics (like hospital gowns, sheets, and pajamas) can catch fire in hospitals and nursing homes.
  • •These rules don’t apply to fabrics used in hospital operating rooms.
  • •If someone breaks these rules, they can be charged with a misdemeanor (a minor crime).

Example

A nursing home buys cheap pajamas for residents that catch fire easily.

If the pajamas don’t meet the fire safety rules set by the State Fire Marshal, the nursing home could be in trouble and might have to pay a fine or face other penalties.
