§ 17955 Soil Investigation Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •Before building a house, the local building department must check the soil to make sure the house won't get damaged later.
  • •If the soil check says to do something special (like add extra support), you must do it to get the building permit.
  • •If you disagree with the building department's decision, you can ask a local appeals board to look at it again.

Example

You want to build a new house on a hill.

The building department checks the soil and says you need to add special supports to stop the house from sinking or cracking. You must add these supports to get permission to build. If you think the supports aren't needed, you can ask the appeals board to review the decision.
