§ 16102 Earthquake Mitigation Building Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •The State Architect must create rules to make buildings safer during earthquakes.
  • •These rules should help limit damage or keep buildings working even after an earthquake.
  • •The rules must include how to calculate the total cost of a building over its entire life.
  • •The rules must compare new earthquake-safe tech to regular building methods to see which is better.

Example

A school is being built in an area where earthquakes happen.

The State Architect's rules will make sure the school is built to stay safe and not get damaged too much if an earthquake happens. They will also check if using special earthquake-safe materials is worth the extra cost compared to regular materials.
