§ 1605 Blood Bank Depository Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Some places that store blood (but aren’t licensed as blood banks) are called 'blood bank depositories'.
  • •These places must follow rules about which blood products they can keep.
  • •Only the blood bank depository is responsible for testing the blood and making sure it’s safe to use.

Example

A small hospital stores blood for emergencies but isn’t a full blood bank.

This hospital is a 'blood bank depository' and must test the blood themselves to make sure it’s safe before giving it to patients.
