§ 13874 Open Burn Permit Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't start an open fire without a permit if your area has rules about it.
  • •The local government won't give you a permit if burning that stuff is not allowed by air quality or other government agencies.
  • •Always check the rules before burning anything outside.

Example

You want to burn a pile of leaves in your backyard.

If your town has rules about open fires, you need to get a permit first. If burning leaves is not allowed because it causes too much smoke, they won’t give you the permit, and you could get in trouble if you burn them anyway.
