§ 13103 Fire Marshal Appointment Authority

• •The State Fire Marshal can pick helpers called assistant or deputy state fire marshals.
• •These helpers must be fire chiefs, city or county fire marshals, or paid workers of the State Fire Marshal.
• •The State Fire Marshal and these helpers have the same powers as police officers.

If there is a big fire in a town, the State Fire Marshal can ask the local fire chief to help investigate what caused the fire.

The fire chief, now acting as a deputy state fire marshal, can do things like question people and look for clues, just like a police officer would.
