§ 13062 Pfas Firefighting Foam Ban

Key Takeaways

  • •Starting January 1, 2022, you can't use a certain type of firefighting foam (class B foam with PFAS chemicals) for training.
  • •If you break this rule, you might have to pay a fine: up to $5,000 for the first time, and up to $10,000 for each time after that.
  • •Firefighters themselves won't have to pay the fine, but their bosses or the organization they work for might.
  • •This rule doesn't stop anyone from using other laws to solve the same problem.

Example

A fire department uses the banned foam during a training exercise on February 1, 2022.

Since they used the banned foam after January 1, 2022, they broke the rule. They could be fined up to $5,000 for this first mistake.
