§ 13025 Fire Hose Coupling Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •Fire hoses and hydrants with small openings (3 inches or less) must use the same standard threads so they fit together.
  • •Bigger fire equipment (over 3 inches) must also use the same standard threads if they have threads.
  • •If big fire equipment doesn’t use threads, it must be approved by the State Fire Marshal to make sure it works with other fire tools.
  • •The State Fire Marshal sets the rules for these standards to keep everything safe and working together.

Example

A fire department buys a new fire hose.

The hose must have the standard threads so it can connect to any hydrant or fire truck. If it doesn’t fit, firefighters can’t use it to put out fires.
