§ 129895 Hospital Equipment Seismic Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •Hospitals must follow special rules to make sure equipment is safely attached to walls or floors so it doesn’t fall or break during an earthquake.
  • •Any new equipment attachments bought or installed after the rules start must be approved by the state first.
  • •Companies that make or sell these attachments can send test results to the state to prove their products are safe before hospitals buy them.
  • •The state can charge a fee to check the test results, approve the equipment, or inspect it in the hospital.

Example

A hospital buys a new heavy oxygen tank holder to mount on the wall.

Before the hospital can install it, they must make sure the holder is on the state’s approved list. If it’s not, the company that made it can send test results to the state to prove it won’t fall off the wall during an earthquake. The state might charge the hospital or the company a fee to check these tests.
