§ 129165 State Property Management Powers

Key Takeaways

  • •The department can manage, fix up, rent, or sell properties it gets in exchange for loans.
  • •The department can also collect money owed by borrowers, even if it means making deals to get paid.
  • •All money made from renting, leasing, or selling these properties goes into a special fund.
  • •The department can sign any papers needed to handle these properties or loans.

Example

Imagine the department gets an old apartment building because someone couldn’t pay back their loan.

The department can decide to fix up the building and rent out the apartments. The rent money they collect goes into a special fund. They can also sell the building if they want, and that money goes into the same fund. If someone still owes money on a loan for the building, the department can work out a deal with them to get the money back.
