§ 12106 Explosives Permit Financial Security

Key Takeaways

  • •If you want a permit to use explosives, you might need to show you have enough money to pay for any damage or injuries caused by the explosives.
  • •You can show this money by having a special bond, insurance, cash, or other proof that the State Fire Marshal approves.
  • •The exact amount of money you need depends on local rules and the authority giving the permit.
  • •This rule does not apply to government agencies.

Example

A construction company wants to use explosives to blow up rocks for a new road.

Before they get the permit, they need to show they have enough money to pay if the explosion accidentally damages nearby houses or hurts someone. They can do this by buying insurance or setting aside cash. If they don’t do this, they won’t get the permit.
